Phil Amburgey

Greatest Strength
His co-workers would best describe him as compassionate. Phil wears his emotions on his sleeve and is quick to come alongside those who are hurting, sharing in laughter, tears, and grief.
“I have had to navigate through my own mental health journey over the years as well as those in my immediate family. Through this experience, I have grown a passion for helping others navigate life’s challenges as well as helping to reduce the stigma around mental health. I desire to see the conversation around mental health become more prevalent in families and schools throughout our communities.”
Phil serves as a Program Specialist with the School Care Team. He studied Ministry Leadership at Lee University and dedicated many years to serving as an ordained Family Pastor before transitioning into the mental health field in 2023.
Motivation & Vision
Phil has navigated the ebbs and flows of his mental health struggles throughout much of his adult life. Through this experience, he has developed a passion for helping others tackle life’s challenges and work to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health. He desires to see conversations about mental health become more prevalent in families and schools within our communities. He believes that the work of The School Care Team is vital to this personal mission and that he can change lives through the connections and dialogues he fosters in the community.
Phil loves spending time with his family, traveling, and playing tabletop games with friends. He also enjoys superhero movies. He loves investing in others and enjoys lively conversations thanks to his extroverted nature!
